🗓 April - October

🕙 6 hours

The Øksfjordjøkul glacier is the only glacier on mainland Europe that calves down into the sea. It is surrounded of beautiful and wild fjords and high Mountains. We leave Alta and head out of the Altafjord with car. Our local guide tells you about the history of Alta from the earliest settlements and local history up until today. When we arrive at our destination in Jøkelfjord we will have a boat trip out to the glacier and get close to the majestic icefall who reaches 800 meters above sea-level. The glacier is very active and can calve, meaning that ice breaks off the front and falls on the uper ice before it falls in the fjord, leaving the sound of thunder behind. After the boat trip we will have a lunch at the dock.
